Abstract
This paper explores the gendered nature of the HIV/AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa, examining socio-cultural, economic and structural factors that heighten female vulnerability. It reviews interventions such as DREAMS, SASA and Stepping Stones, showing how targeted, community-based programmes can reduce new infections and empower women and girls.
