Abstract

One hundred purposively selected women in male- and female-oriented professions in Ondo metropolis were interviewed, and data analysed through Van der Horst's (2016) reading of Mead's role-taking theory. Findings show supportive networks, mentorship and policies addressing workplace challenges are crucial for women's empowerment, while societal expectations and stereotypes limit participation and perpetuate inequality. The paper recommends policy reform, skills training, awareness campaigns, age-inclusive and health-supportive policies, financial security, leadership pipelines and safety measures including PPE sized for women.
